Who is Eligible For Zakat?

There are 8 types of people on which you can spend the amount of your Zakat as mentioned in QURAN MAJEED.

  • Surah Taubah Ayat 60 in Urdu Translation

دقات (یعنی زکوٰة وخیرات) تو مفلسوں اور محتاجوں اور کارکنان صدقات کا حق ہے اور ان لوگوں کا جن کی تالیف قلوب منظور ہے اور غلاموں کے آزاد کرانے میں اور قرضداروں (کے قرض ادا کرنے میں) اور خدا کی راہ میں اور مسافروں (کی مدد) میں (بھی یہ مال خرچ کرنا چاہیئے یہ حقوق) خدا کی طرف سے مقرر کر دیئے گئے ہیں اور خدا جاننے والا (اور) حکمت والا ہے۶۰

The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarer; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is Knower, Wise.﴾60﴿

Who are the Recipients of zakat?

  • Fuqaraa ( The Poor )

You can spend your zakat on those people whose income is low or those who are destitute (بے سہارا).

  • Fi Sabeelillah

You can spend your zakat on those people who are working for ALLAH. i.e Jihad

  • The wayfarer

You can donate your zakat to those people who have become stranded or are traveling with limited resources.

  •   Aamileen

You can give zakat to those specified by an Islamic Chief of State or Govt to retrieve Zakat.

  • Al-Ghaarimeen

You can spend your zakat on an individual whose debt payments surpass his resources but whose current wealth is less than up to a specified limit.

  • Al-masâkîn 

You can spend your zakat on somebody who is in trouble.

  • Ar-Riqaab

You can donate your zakat to free those who are in bondage.

  • Muallafatul-Quloob

You can give your zakat to those whose hearts are to be reconciled, meaning new Muslims and friends of the Muslim community.

Who Is Not Eligible For Zakat ?

Everybody is not eligible for zakat. There are certain people in our society who are not eligible to pay zakat. They are given in below.

  • Your Immediate Family
  • Your Spouse
  • Children
  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Sahib-un-Nisab
  • Non-Muslims
  • Ail-e-Muhammad
  • Dead Persons
  • Husband & Wife
  • Institutions or organizations that fail to provide the proper recipients

The amount of zakat cannot be used in?

You can not use the amount of Zakat for different purposes which are given in below.

  • To Purchase Land
  • To Purchase Books
  • To Purchase Assets
  • To Construct Masjid
  • To Madrassa
